Hideo Kojima has noted how Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has some similarities to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, with the latest issue of EDGE magazine observing that the sequel feels like a modern update to the 2015 open-world stealth title.
“I felt that myself when I played the game,” Kojima-san agreed, which isn’t the first time that he’s spoken about Metal Gear Solid while discussing Death Stranding 2. “When you return to your bed on the Magellan, it’s the same feeling as returning to the plant in Metal Gear,” he added.

The publication went on to mention that Death Stranding 2 features VR challenges that you can indulge in while at your bases, and not only do the feel similar to the VR missions in Metal Gear, but the sound effects are strikingly similar.
Death Stranding 2 is launching on June 26, 2025 for the PS5, and Kojima-san announced earlier this month that the game had gold gold. In addition, the game is receiving its own DualSense controller to arrive alongside the sequel at launch, and Kojima has said that test reviews for Death Stranding 2 to have been overall more positive than its predecessor.
